Community Guidelines

Last updated October 26, 2026

Aeternum is a private place for families to keep their memories: the photos, videos, voices and stories of the people they love, shared with the people they choose and passed on to the next generation. These Community Guidelines explain how we look after that place together. They apply to everyone who uses Aeternum, in the iOS and Android apps and on the web, and to everything shared there, including memories, files, profiles and comments.

They sit alongside our Terms of Service, User Licence Agreement and Child Safety Standards.

What Aeternum Is

Aeternum is not a public social network. Your memories are shared only with the people you choose, such as a circle of close family, and the people you name can inherit them one day. Accounts are for adults aged 18 and over.

Families are at the heart of everything here, so Aeternum is full of photos of children, grandchildren and loved ones. Adults can also keep a profile on behalf of someone they look after or remember, such as a young child, a relative who has passed away or a much-loved pet.

Because what you share reaches people who know and trust you, that trust is what these guidelines protect.

What You’re Welcome to Share

  • Photos, videos, voice recordings and stories from your family’s life, from everyday moments to the big milestones.
  • Photos of your children and grandchildren: birthdays, first days of school, holidays and all the ordinary days in between.
  • Memories of people who have passed away, and the tributes, letters and stories that keep them close.
  • Kind, thoughtful comments on the memories others share with you.

Please share only what you have the right to share, and think about the people in your memories. If someone in a photo might not want it shared, it’s always best to ask them first.

What Is Never Allowed

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content. None of the following is allowed anywhere on Aeternum, however privately it is shared:

  • Sexual content involving minors. Any sexual or sexualised content involving anyone under 18, whether real, edited, drawn or made with AI, and any attempt to groom or exploit a child. We remove it, ban every account that shared, sought or sexualised it, and report it to the authorities, as our Child Safety Standards explain.
  • Sexually explicit content. Pornography, and sexually explicit photos, videos or writing, even between consenting adults.
  • Sexual exploitation. Sharing intimate images of anyone without their consent, threatening to share them, or anything that promotes the sexual exploitation or trafficking of anyone.
  • Harassment and bullying. Threatening, humiliating, intimidating or singling someone out, encouraging others to do so, or continuing to contact someone who has asked you to stop.
  • Hate. Attacking or demeaning people because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or serious illness.
  • Violence and threats. Threatening to hurt anyone, encouraging violence or self-harm, or sharing graphic violence to shock or frighten.
  • Impersonation. Pretending to be someone you are not, or using a profile to mislead people about who is behind it. A profile you keep for someone else must be for a real person or pet you genuinely look after or remember.
  • Other people’s private information. Sharing someone’s contact details, identity documents, financial or medical information, or private photos of them without their consent.
  • Illegal content. Anything that breaks the law, such as fraud and scams, selling drugs, weapons or other illegal goods, or sharing material you have no right to share.
  • Spam. Unwanted advertising, misleading links, fake accounts, or sending requests, invitations, tags or comments in bulk.

How to Report Something

If something on Aeternum worries you, please tell us. Reports are private, and we never tell the person you reported that it was you.

In the app:

  • A memory: tap … on the memory and choose Report Memory.
  • A comment: tap … beside the comment and choose Report Comment.
  • A person: open their profile, tap … and choose Report, followed by their name.

Choose the reason that fits best, add a note if you’d like to, and send it.

By email: write to support@aeternumproject.com and tell us whose profile, memory or comment it was and what worried you. You don’t need an Aeternum account to write to us.

If anyone is in immediate danger, please call 911 or your local emergency number first.

Blocking and Hiding

You never have to put up with someone who makes you uncomfortable.

  • Block someone: open their profile, tap … and choose Block, followed by their name. They won’t be able to see your profile or memories, find you in search, tag or mention you, or send you requests or invitations, and you won’t see their memories either. We never tell anyone they’ve been blocked, and the app offers to report them at the same time. You can unblock someone anytime in Settings › Privacy & Sharing › Blocked People.
  • Hide a memory: tap … on someone else’s memory and choose Hide This Memory. You can bring it back anytime in Settings › Privacy & Sharing › Hidden Memories.

What Happens Next

Our team reviews every report. When something breaks these guidelines, we remove it, and depending on how serious it is, we may also suspend the account that shared it or ban it from Aeternum permanently. Anyone who shares sexual content involving a minor is always banned. Where the law requires it, or someone’s safety is at risk, we also tell the police or other authorities.

To protect the privacy of everyone involved, we may not be able to tell you what we decided about a report. If you think we’ve made a mistake about your own account or something you shared, please write to support@aeternumproject.com and we’ll take another look.

Thank you for helping keep Aeternum a safe and caring home for your family’s memories.
